The Jeep® Wrangler has long been praised for its exceptional off-road capabilities. For the 2021 model year, the Wrangler received an upgrade in the form of the new plug-in hybrid 4xe model. This new addition combines eco-friendly hybrid technology with the Wrangler’s legendary, rugged personality. This combination earned the Wrangler 4xe the Hybrid Technology Solution of the Year Award from AutoTech.
“The Jeep® Wrangler 4xe reaches a new audience by creatively mixing advanced propulsion with a staple in the off-road world,” said Bryan Vaughn, President of AutoTech Breakthrough Awards. “It is this combination of technology without sacrificing the core capabilities of the Wrangler that has earned the vehicle our Hybrid Technology Solution of the Year award.”
Powering the Wrangler 4xe is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors. This is combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a high-voltage battery pack. All of this gives the Wrangler 4xe a total output of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.
When fully charged, the Wrangler 4xe offers up to 25 miles of 100% electric driving.* This should be enough to cover a commute and daily errands for many people. With a full tank of gas and a charged battery, it has a driving range of almost 400 miles.** The Wrangler 4xe also achieves an impressive EPA-estimated 50 MPGe, while keeping its Trail Rated status.***
